The short answer: the shop carries three sizes. A small baby alpaca hide (up to 90 × 60 cm) covers a chair seat or stool, the medium one (up to 100 × 65 cm) an armchair or the back of a sofa, and a young alpaca hide (up to 110 × 75 cm) suits a bedside or a floor spot. Full pelts (130 to 160 cm) and sewn rugs come on request. Below: the table, how to measure, and a room-by-room pick.
Size table
| Hide | Up to | Where it fits | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baby alpaca, small | 90 × 60 cm | chair seat, stool, window seat | 119 € |
| Baby alpaca, large | 100 × 65 cm | armchair, sofa back, wall | 139 € |
| Young alpaca | 110 × 75 cm | bedside, bench, floor | 249 € |
| Full pelt | 130 to 160 cm | living-room floor, in front of the sofa | price on request |
| Sewn rug (e.g. 213 × 183 cm) | several hides joined | living room, bedroom | waitlist, price on request |
The table gives the maximum length and width. Each hide is from one animal, so the edges are uneven and the actual piece runs a few centimetres under the table figure. For full pelts and rugs we send the exact measurement and a photo with our reply.
How to measure a chair, bench, bedside or floor
A tape measure and two numbers. Hides are irregular, so measure the widest point of the furniture and size up rather than down.
- Chair or armchair. Measure the seat width and depth. If the hide should run over the backrest, add the backrest height to the depth. A dining chair seat is about 45 × 45 cm, which the small hide covers; an armchair with its backrest needs the large one.
- Bench or stool. Measure the top's length and width. The hide can hang 10 to 15 cm over each end; that looks more natural than an exact fit.
- Bedside. Measure the free floor along the side of the bed, nightstand to wardrobe. Keep the hide clear of the nightstand legs, which leave a permanent mark in the fur.
- Floor. Measure the area free of table and chair legs. In front of a sofa that is usually 120 to 160 cm, which calls for a full pelt or a rug.
Write the numbers down and send them to us; we reply with the size that fits and a photo of the actual hide.
Room by room
Chair and armchair
A small hide (119 €) on the seat of a dining or rattan chair, the large one (139 €) when it should run over the backrest. The fur spreads when you sit, so the hide does not need to cover the seat to the centimetre.
Sofa back
A large hide over one corner of the backrest is the easiest way to get a hide into the living room. One is enough on a two-seater; on a three-seater, two hides at either end look better than one in the middle.
Bedside
A young alpaca hide (up to 110 × 75 cm) is the usual pick here: feet land on fur in the morning and the hide stays clear of the nightstand. For a double bed take two, one per side.
Living-room floor
In front of the sofa or beside a coffee table, a young alpaca hide works when the free area is up to a metre. A larger area takes a full pelt (130 to 160 cm) or a rug sewn from several hides; if you are after a proper living-room rug, that is the row to look at. Both come on request, the sewn rug through the waitlist for now.
Hallway
Put the hide in front of the mirror or the sideboard, not by the door where shoes are wet. A young alpaca hide along the wall reads like a narrow runner.
Children's room
A small hide on the reading chair or on the wall is the safest spot in a child's room. Not in the cot, pram or anywhere a child sleeps; we say the same in the hide comparison.
All seven spots with photos are in the separate post on alpaca hides in a Scandi or boho room.
Parcel locker or courier
A baby or young alpaca hide folded fur-in into a 58 × 36 cm box fits every parcel locker we ship to: Omniva, DPD, SmartPosti, Posti, PostNord. Delivery in Estonia is free from 65 €, so every hide reaches an Estonian locker free, in 2 to 6 working days. Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania and Denmark take 3 to 10 working days.
A full pelt or a sewn rug does not fit a locker: a rug rolls to about 100 × 35 cm. Those go by courier, and we agree the delivery date in our reply to your inquiry.
Frequently asked questions
Does the large hide cover a whole armchair?
Seat and backrest, yes; the armrests, no. A hide up to 100 × 65 cm runs from the seat over the backrest. Armrests are usually left bare.
Do two hides side by side replace a rug?
For a while: two young alpaca hides side by side cover about 150 × 110 cm. The seam between them moves, though. For a permanent rug, a piece sewn from several hides is better, and that is what the waitlist is for.
Can I get a hide bigger than 110 × 75 cm?
Yes. Full pelts run 130 to 160 cm long and come on request, each with its own measurement and photo. Tell us where it will go and we suggest one.
How much does the actual hide differ from the table?
By a few centimetres: the table lists the maximum, and the edges are naturally uneven. If the spot is an exact fit, take the next size up.
