Alpaca wool gloves keep hands warm without a thick layer, because alpaca fibre traps air better than sheep's wool. The range has hand-knitted alpaca gloves, fingerless gloves for phone and steering wheel, and machine-knitted reversible mittens that can be worn with either side out. Why choose alpaca gloves
Hands get cold first, because blood reaches them last. The hollow alpaca fibre insulates better per gram than sheep's wool, so the glove stays thin and the fingers stay mobile. The smooth fibre pills less, the glove does not go fuzzy and lasts several winters. Fingerless gloves leave the fingertips free but cover the wrist, where the hand loses most heat.
Where our gloves come from
The hand-knitted gloves are made in villages of the Cusco region, the machine-knitted mittens in a small workshop in the same region. The yarn comes from Andean alpacas shorn once a year. Read about our partners.
How to care for alpaca gloves
Air them after wearing, wash by hand in lukewarm water with wool detergent, squeeze between towels, dry flat. Not on the radiator. The guide is in our care article.
Are alpaca gloves suitable for sensitive skin?
Usually, yes. There is no lanolin and the fibre is typically 22.5 microns or finer, so most people feel little of the prickle that is usual with sheep's wool.
Mittens or gloves?
Mittens are warmer, because the fingers warm each other. Fingerless gloves suit when you need your fingers: phone, steering wheel, bike.
