The chullo is the traditional Andean hat, made for mountain cold and wind. The earflaps keep the wind out, and the knit is dense enough to hold heat without being so stiff that it starts to chafe.
Alpaca yarn is warm, light and hard-wearing, so it gives a lot of warmth for its weight: your head and ears stay warm and nothing presses. The fibre is soft enough for sensitive skin.
